Reflecting on a Year of Change

Reflecting on a Year of Change

It's hard to believe it's been a year since Bryce came out of rehab and 16 months since his life-altering accident. Our recent trip to California was a whirlwind of reconnection and new beginnings. In San Diego and Orange County, we reconnected with friends after many years, reminding us that God is in the details.

A highlight was meeting with a sports foundation supporting adaptive athletes, which has raised over $178M and supported 48,000 grant requests across 105 sports. Their South African co-founder was incredibly encouraging, and we're hopeful for future support for Bryce in adaptive sports.

In Monterey Bay, Bryce received an adaptive handcycle and competed in his first gravel race at the Sea Otter Classic, the world's largest cycling festival. He placed 3rd in the adaptive category and in the top half of able-bodied athletes—a remarkable feat just days after getting his new bike.

This has spurred an invitation to race in the Nedbank Gravel Burn, a 7-day, 850km gravel stage race in South Africa, from Knysna to Shamwari Game Reserve in October/November.

Please pray for Bryce's health, injury-free training, and our family's adjustment to this new way of life. We face challenges out of the public eye, but Bryce's determination continues to shine. Mitchell is attending his Matric Dance tonight—a joyful milestone!
